Scientist at UC Berkeley have learned how African lizards use their tails to jump and escape predators. They have created a robot with a tail mimicking that of an African lizard. Due the success of the robot the scientists believe the robots can have many military purposes.

my article is about a man who gained entrance to America from Canada by showing his passport on his iPad,since he forgot it two hours away at home. it was Christmas so the security guy let him pass.I personally don't think he should have been able too.it's illegal and not fair to others.once one person passes through more people will try

It is interesting about how they actually let him pass but I agree with you that he should not have been able to cross. Security to cross the border has always been really good, but technology is also dramatically increasing so maybe that will be out future. Alot of people could make fake passports and put it on there, or steal another persons passport. Even if they make a specific app for it, it would be very difficult to keep validity since people could easily hack the app.

As technology continues to advance and become even more popular passport on smart phones, iPads, and other electronics will be accepted. http://abcnews.go.com/US/osama-bin-laden-found-2009-ucla-geography-class/story?id=13520445

This article describes how in 2009, a group of UCLA geography students started a class project to attempt to find Osama in Laden. They used several techniques learned in class that are used to track animals, and applied them to humans as well. They decided that Osama bin Laden would be living within 200 miles of Tora Bora, which turned out to be correct when Osama was found in 2011. Not only that, but the students also stated how bin Laden would be living in a large town in a big building with tree cover and fences, instead of a cave as many thought. This also turned out to be true, as bin Laden was found "in a huge compound in an upscale Pakistani suburb." This leads some to believe that if these students' findings were taken seriously by the government in 2009 (which they weren't) bin Laden could have been found much sooner.

This article explains the possibility for President Obama to be re-elected. Recently, (Friday) he wrote the job report showing the unemployment down to 8.5% as of the end of December. This has been the lowest unemploment since 2009. Giving a sign the economy is on a full rebound. The Labor Department figures the unemployment percent will continue to go down for the next four months and hundreds of thousands will be available for the next six months. If this holds true, it will be a big help to have him remain in the oval office for the next four years!

This article is about how third grade teachers tried to put social studies with math with racist math questions For example, one of the questions were "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?". This shows that some people are still racist and now all of the parents of these kids in third grade have to explain why there is a question like this on their paper.

This article was about how a fly parasite was killing the world’s honeybees. The bees that are affected walk in circles and go toward bright lights while they can still move. The bees eventually become unable to use their legs. This is a possible reason for the world population of bees decreasing.

This article is about the fact that Macs can get viruses just as easy as a PC. A Mac's security system is not really any better or worse than those of Windows machines. The only difference is that Macs aren't targeted as much because of the low percentage of them in compared to windows based machines.

Yes, Mac users act like they're untouchable. Hackers feel bad for Macs and their cavemen technological capabilities and choose not to bother them. Realistically, I doubt too many hackers own a Mac.

Michael Patrick

yes, there are few Mac viruses around because of the huge number of windows users, but the theory of the immune system plays a role; if you never get sick because you live in a bubble, your immune system is weak. If you get sick, it will be much much worse if you had previously lived in a bubble. That's why flu vaccines work, they get you sick in a safer way so your body builds up immunuties. Macs don't have those immunities yet.

It is a toss in the air though, since so few use macs.

I find it hilarious that mac users feel that they're invincible, they never will be even though they are safer by numbers. As long as technology is advancing so will the complexity and number of viruses.

The article I read was the actual truth about tanning beds. There are good results from tanning; getting the vitamin D that your body needs is the best effect tanning has on a persons' body. 40% of Americans have an insufficient vitamin D level which can lead to depression, SAD, and schizophrenia. Negative effects of tanning are if someone goes too much they can have too much vitamin D and it can lead to melanoma.

I do not think it is right how so many teenagers these days think they don't look good if they don't tan. There should be some restrictions on tanning, because many teens are ruining their health just to "look good" for a few days.

People go outside to play in the sun and get their vitamin D. Every summer I am always outside doing something from work to playing soccer and running. Tanning beds can give you vitamin D, sure, and probably skin cancer. People who feel like that they need to tan everyday should not feel that way. Tanning doesn't make everybody look good either and it just increases risk of cancer.

The problem with tanning beds, i think, is that the people who do use them, abuse them. I agree with deanna. And you could take vitamins to replace tanning, or going outside (even in the winter, as long as you have some skin showing) can replace the tanning bed or summer sun vitamin D. And alysa, if you are in a tanning bed for ten minutes too long, you could get really burned.

He attempted to ride under a train across the border back to the US but was found by the US Customs and Border Protection. He plans on trying to come back again. I understand why people have sympathy for people in the same situation as this man faces. It seems that a hardworking 'model student' should be able to obtain citizenship and stay legally in the country while working to better themselves. The problem that I see is that there is no completely fair way to decide who is being 'productive' and who is not. If one person is allowed to stay in the country then the others will claim that they should also be allowed to stay.

they tale global averages of temperature and compare them I suppose. Also, in the roman era it was much warmer on average than now, and in the medivial ages 4 times the amount of coal was used per year than what is used now, so all of these ozone-killer studies are wrong. And to add to that, when lighting strikes, ozone is formed. That could be why more storms occur when the ozone is "weak", since it seems like that would be a good healing system.

The whole idea of global warming kinda makes me laugh because like the article says, there is a cycle of heating and cooling of the entire environment. As for humans making it "worse" by using cars and burning coal and such because of all of the CO2 produced, a super volcano has the potential to produce the same amount of CO2, or more, as the entire human race does in a year in one explosion and there has not been any true super volcano explosions in quite some time.

This article is some what like an article I read, but the one I read was about smelling something you like when you are learning it and later when you would smell that same smell you would easily remember what you learned. It may just be when your brain gets insulin from things that you like it helps to remember/be stored in your brain.

That is really cool. I never knew our brains helped us remember things from eating and smelling.

This is interesting. I never knew gum expands the mind. Even though it is a theory it does seem logical.
This is still interesting. Maybe schools should allow more gum to be chewed in school. This theory might lead into more tests about gum actually helping someone think.

The raging battle over SOPA and PIPA, the proposed anti-piracy laws, is looking more and more likely to end in favor of Internet freedom — but it won't be the last battle of its kind. Although, ethereal as it is, the Internet seems destined to survive in some form or another, experts warn that there are many threats to its status quo existence, and there is much about it that could be ruined or lost.

I'm not entirely sure this is a bad thing. Good and bad could come from anti piracy. Piracy is illegally obtained material. However, many things on the internet would no longer be there. Anti Piracy is also said to violate the first amendment of the constitution.

I was surprised that an attack on the internet wouldn't be considered that big of a threat. But piracy can lead to harm of the internet. This was interesting to find out.

i think many people misunderstand what SOPA/PIPA is about. I know some people are freaking out think they are going to shut down the Internet altogether. but thats not the case!

I know that it wouldn't shut down the internet, but still its just the idea that the government can think they have the power to take away the ideals that this country was built on. And like they say, give them and inch and they'll want a mile. The more power the government gets the more they'll want.

They won't shut down the Internet, but this will cause many things to vanish. YouTube videos showing music or something copyrighted may cause YouTube to shut down, and if someone has something that they didn't purchase in their pc or iPod, they could become a felon under these laws. Basically that makes 80% or more kids in armada felons. I understand that piracy takes billions of dollars, but this won't stop piracy. Hackers will still find a way, this will just make it harder for us to enjoy the Internet when large sites are shut down because one person posted something that wasn't theirs.

Google=Evil? who woulda thought?
Goolge will be offereing many new attractions starting March 1st, but is everyone for these new additions. Congress believes some things should be changed like raising the age limit to open a Google account. Currently which is 13. What do you think?

i found this link over the weekend:
http://www.fastcoexist.com/1679201/fungi-discovered-in-the-amazon-will-eat-your-plastic
Apparently researchers found a fungus in the amazons that eats plastics and needs no oxygen. This could lead to a cure for our waste issue, but I'm clueless wether this fungus is dangerous to our envornment or animals and humans.
